Dr Colin Durrant, conductor
Dr Colin Durrant leads the postgraduate programme in Music Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. In addition to the ULCC he conducts Imperial College Choir.
Colin has a wide range of choral conducting and teaching experience and is a principal tutor for the Association of British Choral Directors’ conducting courses in London, and, following his research into the area of effective choral conducting, designed and developed a postgraduate programme in Choral Education, the first of its kind in the UK.
He has led teacher training and conducting workshops in the USA, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Kenya as well as in Europe and the UK and, in 2009 and 2011, was one of an international panel of adjudicators and conducting master-class leaders at the Singapore Youth Music Festival.
Colin has published many articles on choral conducting and music education; his book Choral Conducting: Philosophy and Practice appeared in 2003. He is keen on fine wines, pruning roses and knows more than you need to know about the Airbus 380.
