COVID - 19 Update: 1/2/2021
ULCC continues to rehearse virtually whilst Government guidance prohibits our return to singing together in person. We are delighted to welcome Olivia Shotton as ULCC's Acting Conductor for Semester 2, who has been leading our weekly rehearsals with much energy and professionalism. Quintin Beer continues to influence our choral journey as the choir's Artistic Director and will reinstate his role as Conductor next term.
The choir continues to enjoy singing a wide variety of musical repertoire, from Vaughan Williams and Mendelssohn to Stamford and Tchaikovsky. I hope that we will be able to share with you (virtually) the fruits of our efforts soon. Please continue to follow our social media pages for further updates.
- Anthony Ryan, ULCC President 2020-21
What is ULCC?
The University of London Chamber Choir (ULCC) is a high standard, dynamic and expressive choral ensemble based in Bloomsbury, London. We are student-run but professionally directed under the expert baton of our conductor, Quintin Beer. We rehearse during term time on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 to 8:30, and aim to perform 10 - 12 concerts throughout each academic year.
Our group of 30 singers are students and alumni mainly from colleges and institutions within the University of London. However, we are unique among other university choirs in that we open our membership to all students and alumni of any London-based higher educational institution. Our members come from all around the world, and together make up a choir that encompasses many different cultural, religious or non-religious backgrounds, and orientations and identities.
We choose our repertoire from an extensive variety of sacred and secular music, from the Early Renaissance to the Modern Day. We encourage you to listen to our most recent live recordings here, as well as on our Youtube channel.
We make several performances throughout the academic year.
Our 2019-2020 season included three concerts at St George's Bloomsbury, and Evensong at Holy Trinity Sloane Square.
We have also made other ventures such as an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Gemma Collins Christmas Podcast and singing carols in Holborn Underground Station raising money for charity.
Planned but unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19 were two appearances at Ely Cathedral and St Cuthbert's Earl Court, a collaborative concert with Greenwich and Imperial College London Choir, as well as our tour to Valencia.
Other venues from last year include Southwark Cathedral, Norwich, Ludham and Littlebury. We have also undertaken international tours to Milan and Malta in recent years.
In addition to our programme of concerts and sung evensong, we are also available to sing at weddings, corporate events, and more. For enquiries about private bookings and collaborations, please get in touch.
