Update 21st March 2021
Welcome to our Website!
We are delighted to invite you to ULCC's First Live Virtual Concert on Sunday 18th April at 7:30pm. For the first time, we are bringing the beautiful tones of ULCC to your personal device at home! Our event aims to bring together our past and present members, their friends and family, our wonderful supporters and benefactors for a brief musical interlude and a celebration of musicianship and singing during challenging times.
It has now been just over a year since the first time we had to cancel a rehearsal due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
We have since then worked hard to find new ways of sharing and enjoying music that are safe and Covid-secure. Through Zoom rehearsals, and 'Virtual Choir' videos such as this one, we have kept the choir together and engaged during what has been for many a very difficult time indeed.
Further, we have been delighted to welcome Olivia Shotton as Acting Conductor for this term, while Quintin Beer settles into his new role as Director of Music at St Peter's College, Oxford. Quintin will join us again next term.
We continue to closely monitor government guidelines, and we are always looking forward to being able to rehearse and perform in person once again.
What is ULCC?
The University of London Chamber Choir (ULCC) is a high standard, dynamic and expressive choral ensemble based in Bloomsbury, London. We are student-run but professionally directed under the expert baton of our conductor, Quintin Beer. We rehearse during term time on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 to 8:30, and aim to perform 10 - 12 concerts throughout each academic year.
Our group of 30 singers are students and alumni mainly from colleges and institutions within the University of London. However, we are unique among other university choirs in that we open our membership to all students and alumni of any London-based higher educational institution. Our members come from all around the world, and together make up a choir that encompasses many different cultural, religious or non-religious backgrounds, and orientations and identities.
We choose our repertoire from an extensive variety of sacred and secular music, from the Early Renaissance to the Modern Day. We encourage you to listen to our most recent live recordings here, as well as on our Youtube channel.
We make several performances throughout the academic year.
Our 2019-2020 season included three concerts at St George's Bloomsbury, and Evensong at Holy Trinity Sloane Square.
We have also made other ventures such as an appearance on BBC Radio 1's Gemma Collins Christmas Podcast and singing carols in Holborn Underground Station raising money for charity.
Planned but unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19 were two appearances at Ely Cathedral and St Cuthbert's Earl Court, a collaborative concert with Greenwich and Imperial College London Choir, as well as our tour to Valencia.
Other venues from last year include Southwark Cathedral, Norwich, Ludham and Littlebury. We have also undertaken international tours to Milan and Malta in recent years.
In addition to our programme of concerts and sung evensong, we are also available to sing at weddings, corporate events, and more. For enquiries about private bookings and collaborations, please get in touch.
